Delta Gammas and Anchor Center

Learn about Delta Gamma's involvement with Anchor Center.

I didn’t understand how life-changing the program could be until I experienced it firsthand. I hope that all Delta Gammas take advantage of any opportunity they have to take part in such a great cause.

Taylor Fricke, Delta Gamma and Anchor Center Marketing Intern

Delta Gamma provides ongoing support and encompasses the ideals in which its fraternity was founded through Delta Gamma Anchor Center for Blind Children.

Anchor Center for Blind Children was founded in 1982 by the local Delta Gamma alumnae chapter and a librarian from the Colorado Library for the Blind. The DG alumnae chapter sought to further their philanthropic commitment towards Service for Sight by opening an entire center dedicated to children with visual impairments. The first class included four preschool students and six homebound infants. Now, with the continued support of Delta Gammas, Anchor serves more than 200 children and family members each year.

Delta Gamma's Story

Delta Gamma was founded with the motto, “do good”, which emphasizes the fraternity’s dedication to its philanthropy. Its foundation, Service for Sight, lies at the heart of the organization.

Their mission for their philanthropy began in 1936 when a blind member of the fraternity petitioned for her cause. With Service for Sight, Delta Gamma has opened five schools, including Anchor Center, to support children with visual impairments.

Each year, collegiate chapters hold their annual Anchor Splash and Anchor Games fundraisers to raise money for Service for Sight. Delta Gammas also complete service hours where they volunteer their time to serve those who are visually impaired. Service for Sight has become a major component that supports the ideals the fraternity was founded upon.

Volunteer Opportunities

Anchor Center offers many opportunities for collegiate and alumnae Delta Gammas to volunteer. From large fundraising events like Visions of Love to summer programming and volunteer clean up days, Anchor offers a wide variety of ways for Delta Gammas to get involved. Entire chapters and individuals alike are encouraged to sign up and experience firsthand the difference Anchor Center makes in children’s lives.
