On June 7th, thirteen preschoolers threw their sailor hats in the air to celebrate their graduation. This was the largest graduating class in Anchor Center history. We are so proud of each graduate, and the incredible progress they have made.

Many of the graduates began with us as infants learning sensory exploration, and techniques for crawling and eating. As toddlers and preschoolers they learned pre-Braille, including techniques for both reading and writing Braille. Along the way, they have gained confidence and knowledge.  As graduates, they can now effectively discover and explore the world around them with and without using a cane.

During the ceremony, Bryan and Connor Morgan were presented with the Virginia Deal Williams Award for excellence in voluntarism. Each class performed a special song for their family, friends, and teachers. Our graduates then  presented their families with a flower to thank them for helping them along the way. Afterwards, each child was presented with a diploma before singing “Anchors Aweigh” for the final time as a group. They boarded the “ship”, which they hand painted, to sail to the next adventure with the skills and confidence needed to navigate the world around them.

We wish the graduates and their families luck in kindergarten, and the years beyond. While we will miss them, we know that their futures are bright. Congratulations Preschool Class of 2018!
